Reimagine Housing Society was founded by people with deep roots in social services, accessibility, and community development — and personal experience of the gaps we're trying to close.
Our founder raised her child alone after a divorce in her mid-30s, without much support. Asking for help was hard — even when people were willing, it felt like imposing. Years later, watching her adult child struggle to find a living situation that actually worked — living with family, living alone, roommates — she realized none of the options felt sustainable.
It wasn't a question of capability. It's that the options are so limited and so rigid. You either fit into what's out there, or you don't.
And once we started paying attention, we saw how many people live in that same gap: people coming out of high school without a clear path, families facing mental health challenges without a support network, Deaf seniors placed in long-term care where they can't communicate with anyone around them, Deaf young adults with nothing in place after school.
Our plan is deliberately simple. Start small — a four-to-six-unit building, matched to the land. Nothing institutional. Just a place where people can live near others who understand them a bit better. Not forced programming, not a big system — something that feels more natural and human. If it works, build another one. And another.
We don't think people are meant to be this isolated. A lot of connection has moved online, but that doesn't replace having people nearby — people you recognize, people you can talk to, even casually. This is our attempt to create more of that in a real, physical way.
To create accessible, inclusive, and community-oriented housing solutions that support young adults and seniors in building independent, connected, and dignified lives.
A future where every person — regardless of age, ability, identity, or income — has access to affordable, purposefully designed housing that fosters belonging, stability, and opportunity.
We prioritize the needs of marginalized and equity-deserving groups, including 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, racialized individuals, womxn, people living with disabilities, and low-income populations.
Everyone deserves housing that is safe, stable, and respectful of their autonomy and humanity.
We design housing to cultivate social connection, shared responsibility, and mutual support.
We are committed to universal design principles and inclusive practices that ensure barrier-free living.
We build for long-term impact — economically, socially, and environmentally.
We reimagine what housing can look like through intentional design, collaborative partnerships, and forward-thinking development models.
Project concept development begins for an affordable rental building for young adults in transition to independence.
